Snowflake Generator

Beginner1 submissions

Challenge Prompt

Design a unique snowflake using geometry nodes with at least 6-fold symmetry. Make it feel crystalline and delicate. Experiment with different branch patterns and complexity levels.

Challenge Description

Create a procedural snowflake using Blender's geometry nodes. Learn the basics of symmetry, instancing, and procedural generation while making beautiful unique snowflakes.

Instructions

- Start with a basic curve or line - Use Geometry Nodes to create radial symmetry (6 instances) - Add smaller branches using instance on points - Apply a glass or ice shader material - Light from behind to show the translucency

Requirements

  • Use Geometry Nodes for procedural generation
  • 6-fold radial symmetry
  • At least 3 levels of detail/branching
  • Clean, icy material
  • Simple lighting to show detail

Tips

  • 💡Keep the base structure simple before adding complexity
  • 💡Use the Array modifier combined with rotation for quick symmetry
  • 💡Glass BSDF with high transmission works great for ice
  • 💡Add slight imperfections for realism
